A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 3/16 inches (3.02 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Per fess arched Buff and Sable, an arrowhead Gules fimbriated Or charged with a scroll Argent embellished of the last (Silver Gray) all superimposed by a quill silhouette bend sinisterwise of the second nib resting on the scroll. Attached below the shield is a horizontal Black scroll doubled and inscribed "THE WAY AHEAD" in Gold.
Buff and scarlet are the colors associated with Support units. Black or "In the Black" refers to financial solvency. Gold is emblematic of honor and integrity of the Battalion's contract actions and level of support to its customers. The unit shows them "The Way Ahead" through contingency contracting. The organization supports United States Army Special Operations Command (USASOC) which is represented by the red arrowhead adapted from the USASOC unit patch. The scroll and quill symbolize contingency contracting capability. The shield's curved partition line at center, alluding to the globe, represents the support of USASOC around the world.
The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 2 February 2010.
